North Carolina legislators are on the verge of proposing a new state budget that will undermine decades of progress in education, health care and infrastructure. As we begin a tenuous recovery out of the recession, we cannot abandon the public systems and structures that provide opportunities for all North Carolinians to succeed.

Legislative leaders have already said that they will cut $1.43 billion out of our education system (that’s more than the entire community college system) and nearly $500 million out of the Health and Human Services budget (that’s more than all of Smart Start and the Division of Mental Health combined).
For North Carolina to move forward out of the recession, we must embrace the investments – education, public health, and infrastructure – that paved the way for North Carolinians to create the great state that we now enjoy.
