WE’D LIKE TO SAY A VERY LOUD ‘THANK YOU’ TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE FIRST ANNUAL BACKWARDS BUDGET .5K!
More than 100 of you took the time to come down to the NC legislature on a very hot Tuesday afternoon to tell lawmakers to get their budget priorities straight. We would like to congratulate Alexandra from Team Save Tru on her big win, and Mr. Ciggy Butts for his most inspiring performance!
Be sure to check out the News & Observer’s excellent photo gallery of the race, and relive the excitement by watching and sharing the video below from NC Policy Watch.
Now, let’s hope we never have to do that again…
What: Participants will race backwards around the Halifax Mall to protest the backwards state budget.
When: Tuesday, June 19th. Race starts at 12 PM, registration starts at 11:15 AM.
Where: Halifax Mall @ the NC Legislature
301 N. Wilmington St. / Raleigh, NC 27601
We believe North Carolina is at its best and most competitive when we have a strong public education system, community colleges that train and retrain workers, public universities that are engines of innovation and a robust infrastructure that eases the way for businesses and provides a strong quality of life for all to enjoy.
Our state budget is a pathway to achieve this vision for a strong and vibrant North Carolina. Unfortunately, the approved House Budget sets our state on a path towards mediocrity or worse by sustaining deep cuts to critical public investments.
While the House budget includes some new funding, it doesn’t come close to fully restoring cuts passed in last year’s budget in areas such as K-12 education, Medicaid and early education.
To raise awareness about the “Backwards Budget,” Together NC is convening the first annual Backwards Budget .5K! Participants will race backwards around the Halifax Mall (located directly behind the General Assembly) to shine a spotlight on the legislature’s backwards approach to the state budget.
REGISTER BELOW! If you’re participating as part of an organization, please fill in the ‘team’ section of the form.
