North Carolina is a great place to live because our state has made wise investments in education, children's healthcare, job training and a clean environment.
Now is the time to protect these investments. That means raising the revenue we need to get us out of this recession and help working families across the state. We know it won’t be easy in this time of budget crisis. But just as surely, we know that it’s worth it.
It’s worth it to educate our kids through early childhood programs, strong public schools and affordable post-secondary opportunities to ensure a vital future for our state;
It’s worth it to keep our communities safe with smart, proven criminal justice programs that protect families while helping people turn their lives around;
It’s worth it to provide quality health care to uninsured children, to older adults, and to people with disabilities, saving lives and tax dollars along the way;
It’s worth it to keep people employed through teaching jobs, health services positions and other vital work that builds a better economy for all of North Carolina;
It’s worth it to keep the air clean and traffic minimal by investing in wise public transportation projects and road improvement initiatives;
It’s worth it for the benefits it will bring to our children, and the families living and working in our communities – now and in the future.
North Carolina is a great state. And we can be even greater if we make the right choices now.
Our legislators have done courageous work on our behalf. The Governor, the Senate, and the House have all proposed budgets that include new revenues. The more than 175 member organizations of the HK on J partners and Together NC coalition applaud them for this.
Now, it’s time to come together and finish the job. We urge the House and Senate to cooperate to pass a much-needed budget that provides our state with sufficient revenues as soon as possible.
We can do this, together. We know it will be worth it for our shared future.
